1970s pop singer, born Peter Charles Green · 1942–2023
Looking for a different Peter Green? Maybe the Fleetwood Mac guitarist. See all of them.
Yes — another one. The bubbly 1972 pop hit “Beautiful Sunday” was sung by Daniel Boone, the stage name of an English singer born Peter Charles Green in Birmingham on 31 July 1942.
He started out as guitarist and singer with a Birmingham band, the Beachcombers, recorded briefly as “Peter Lee Stirling”, then took the name Daniel Boone in 1971. His ballad “Daddy Don't You Walk So Fast” reached the UK top 20, and “Beautiful Sunday” went on to sell over two million copies worldwide. He died on 27 January 2023.
An irrepressibly cheerful pop song that reached No. 15 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and sold more than two million copies — a global one-hit wonder still on the radio.
His first hit for Penny Farthing records, a ballad that reached No. 17 in the UK and set up his brief but bright chart career.
Is this Peter Green the real Peter Green?
The great twist: he was born Peter Green, then chose to become “Daniel Boone” — voluntarily giving up the finest name on earth. Forfeit accepted; the title passes to the real Peter Green.
