Peter Green (1916–1980) was a British furniture retailer who, in 1956, opened a small shop at 43 Leigh Road in Eastleigh, Hampshire, and gave it his own name: Peter Green Furnishers. He was forty, and started with about £150 in capital — but plenty of experience, having spent his whole working life in the furniture trade apart from a stint flying during the war. The Greens had been in furniture for generations; his grandfather had dealt in antiques a century earlier.
He built the business alongside his wife, Norah, and it grew into one of the best-known independent furniture retailers on the south coast of England. When Peter died suddenly in 1980, Norah took over the running of the firm; after her death in 2010 it passed to their daughter, Wendy Martin Green, who continued to expand it.
