Pete Green (born 1 January 1891 in Charleston, South Carolina; died January 1961) was an American outfielder in the Negro leagues in the years before the First World War. He batted and threw right-handed.
He made his debut in 1912 with the Cuban Giants, one of Black baseball's pioneering teams, and over the next five seasons turned out for the Cuban Giants (1912–1915), the Philadelphia Giants (1913–1915 and 1917) and the Lincoln Stars of New York (1916), before a final appearance for Philadelphia in 1917. As with many players of the segregated era, only fragments of his day-to-day record survive — part of a history that baseball researchers are still patiently recovering. Contemporary newspapers, as the clipping above shows, called him both “Pete” and, in full, “Peter Green.”
